Today was great. When I first came into the class I thought that it was a huge classroom, but after we did the ice breakers I was totally comfortable with asking questions and talking. We are all human and most of us have a fear of speaking in front of large audiences, except for Monica ,she is funny. I also learned that Stephanie and I have the same english class on Saturday which is cool too. I love Steven other name caha Chang( i know that is beyond the wrong spelling) but it's like caching like the sound of change in a old fashion cash register. I did a presentation on Andy and he seems really smart. I even saw Karolina from my english class in fall 1. Prof Trapani seems like a really effective teacher and i am looking forward to the rest of the semester although i really don't think he is deaf, i think it is a technique to get us soft spoken people to speak up.
Other than that I learned the history of communication started with rhetoric, which was started in Sicily by sophist name Corax and Tisias. It was further developed in Greece by people who we are more familar with such as Aristotle. Although the Italians were the founders of the technique of persuasion, they were not ethical which meant they were not always truthful, that was the difference between Greek rhetoric. the Greeks studied methods ethos which is being truthful and using valid sources, pothos, which is tapping into a person's emotion so they can better understand you, and logos, which using critical thinking and statistics so that a person can also better understand why your topic is important to you.we also learned about perspective and how history is going in a circle academically, from rhetoric to faith during the renaissance era up to modern times using rhetoric and science.
Excellent post. You truly reflected on the day, however, while the deaf story as a 'technique' is a great hypothesis, it is true..., but just partially..thank goodness!
