Our group came up with the idea that we would like to work on the following topic: "How Language Affects Communication". The reason why we chose this topic was because our goal/plan is to go out and look for people from different cultures/backgrounds that speak different languages and are attempting to communicate. The language barrier becomes a conflict because one person misunderstands something through the language transfer and translation. We hope to highlight the effectiveness of the words being used to communicate, and how the slightest alterations can completely change the message the speaker is attempting to convey. Then we are going to preform one of these issues with our group members. There will also be a narrator elaborating on what is being acted out. We are also thinking of touching on how language can affect a child through 3rd party observation.
The task for next week will be for Steven to bring his camera. Jason will be joining him on the film editing. We will all be researching our topic to make identifying strong supporting examples simpler. We will all be filming the following friday as a group. This will be our first session filming and will not be conducted by individual tasks, more like free-range brainstorming. This will give us insight on how to organize our 7 minute presentation. It will also provide us with sufficient rough footage that can polished into a well rounded project.
